With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend, Jerry Don Kuykendall, who passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 84.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in believing he chose to leave this world quietly, giving his family the strength to let him go with love.
Jerry was born on December 5, 1941, in Fresno, California, where he graduated from Central High School.
He later made Sunnyvale his home, where he lived for 54 years and became a well-known and respected member of the community.
For more than four decades, Jerry proudly owned and operated Kuykendall's Auto Body alongside his wife of 63 years, Rosemarie, and his son, Tracy.
The shop was more than a business to him; it reflected his quality of work and craftsmanship.
As he believed, "Quality is never a gift or an accident.
It takes intentional effort, skill, intelligence, and a desire to succeed in doing the best that is possible," a motto he lived by so customers knew they could come for quality repairs.
Custom painting and pinstriping were Jerry's true passion.
He began perfecting his craft at just 18 years old, and it remained part of who he was for the rest of his life.
His incredible artistic talent appeared on countless custom vehicles throughout California during the '60s, '70s, and '80s.
Sketches, designs, and pinstriping ideas could always be found scattered across notepads in his shop and throughout his home, a testament to a mind that never stopped creating.
When he wasn't behind a paint gun or striping brush, Jerry could almost always be found on the golf course, trying to squeeze in one more round before sunset.
Golf brought him peace, challenge, and countless friendships that he treasured throughout the years.
Jerry also dedicated many years to coaching youth baseball with Sunnyvale Southern Little League during the 1980s.
Many former players still remember Mr.
K not only for his stature, but for the lessons he taught that extended far beyond baseball.
For most of Jerry's life, he was a force to be reckoned with, but beneath that booming voice was a larger-than-life artist, business owner, coach, and, above all, the anchor of his family.
His strength, wisdom, humor, and unwavering presence will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Rosemarie Kuykendall; his sons, Tracy Kuykendall and Darrell Kuykendall; his cherished grandchildren, Kelli (Cameron), Kennedi (Pim), Kyli, Brayde, and Rawley; his sisters, Vicki Morris and Micki Kuykendall; and his beloved rescue dog, Dallas, who rarely left his side.
Though Jerry has been lifted from this earth, the lessons he taught and the beauty he created will continue.
His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every vehicle that bears his artistry, and every member of his family who carries a piece of him forward.
We will miss him beyond words, love him beyond measure, and remember him always.
