President Donald Trump weighed in on embattled Maine Senate nominee Graham Platner, offering his thoughts on the controversy surrounding the Democrat.
On Wednesday, during a press gaggle aboard Air Force One, Trump was questioned whether Platner should withdraw from the Maine Senate race after two women came forward with allegations of non-consensual sexual conduct, including one who accused him of rape.
Platner has denied the allegations.
“It’s really a question of whether or not you believe the woman,” Trump told reporters.
“A lot of people say big falsehoods.
It’s– he’s in a bind.”
Pointing to a double standard, the president also expressed that he found it “interesting” the mainstream media was covering the story now, whereas Republican Lyndsey Fifield’s earlier claims about Platner were largely dismissed due to her political affiliation.
“Should they be able to [force him out]?
Well, I guess he’s going to lose,” the president added.
“It’s very interesting, when a Republican woman came out with the same charge, nobody believed her.
When this woman came out, everybody believed her.”

Fifield, a prominent conservative writer and digital strategist, dated Platner from 2013 to 2015.
In June, she had come forward anonymously in a New York Times article revealing that her ex-boyfriend had a history of volatile behavior and physical abuse, routinely engaging in “stealthing” — removing condoms without consent.
Nonetheless, the story didn’t gain massive national traction until Jenny Racicot, 41, a registered Democrat, came forward on Monday to reveal that Platner raped her back in 2021.
As of Wednesday evening, Platner has since officially dropped out of the Maine U.S.
Senate race.
He announced that he is suspending his campaign operations in an 11-minute video posted to social media, stating that “for the movement to continue, it can’t be me.”
However, despite withdrawing from the contest, Platner continued to deny the sexual assault allegations brought forward earlier in the week, calling them completely false and claiming that a corporate media system and the political establishment acted as “judge, jury, and executioner” before any investigation could take place.
His exit follows intense, widespread pressure and pulled endorsements from both state and national Democrat leadership.
