Following the decision by several musical artists to cancel their performances at the Great American State Fair, President Donald Trump will be opening the celebration.
In a Saturday social media post, Danielle Alvarez, spokesperson for Freedom 250, the event organizer, announced that Trump will be kicking off the fair at the Wednesday, June 24th opening ceremony.
"As the visionary behind the Great American State Fair, we are excited to announce that President Trump will personally kick off this historic celebration on Wednesday, June 24 in an opening ceremony celebrating America’s 250th birthday," Alvarez said.
The announcement comes after a number of artists scheduled to perform at the fair backed out, with reasons including partisan divide and safety concerns.
Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to float the idea of an "America is Back" rally for the fair, claiming he draws in larger crowds than Elvis Presley did.
"I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance on Wednesday, so I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis Presley…and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J.
TRUMP, to take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists,’ and give a major speech, rallying the Country forward like I have done ever since being President!"
the commander-in-chief said.
"I don’t want so called ‘Artists’ that get paid far too much money, who aren’t happy," he continued.
"So, by copy of this TRUTH, I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location."
In a subsequent Saturday post, the president again championed the idea.
"We should have a giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250, instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain.
Cancel it," he said.
Referencing the president’s post, the White House supported the concept, commenting, "AMERICA IS BACK Rally!"
According to the Freedom 250 event website, the Great American State Fair will take place from June 25th to July 10th at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
"The Great American State Fair is a World’s Fair celebrating the people, traditions, innovations, and spirit that makes America the greatest nation on Earth," spokesperson Alvarez said.
"The Great American State Fair will bring together all states and territories to showcase the very best of America through state exhibits, industry displays, family friendly attractions and movie screenings, musical performances, military ensembles, incredible flyovers, and an iconic Ferris wheel on the National Mall," Alvarez continued.
Despite some musical artists withdrawing from the celebrations, others appear set to perform, including singer and rapper Vanilla Ice, who asserted he is "here to party with America."
