A 31-year-old woman who had been paddleboarding was found dead in the water at Lassing Park on Friday morning, the St.
Petersburg Police Department reported.
Police were called to the park, 2042 Beach Drive SE, at 10 a.m. after they received a call about “an unresponsive woman wearing a bathing suit found floating in the water close to shore,” a department news release states.
St.
Pete Fire Rescue arrived on scene, and the woman, who police identified as Erica Grace Wendling, was pronounced dead.
Police found a paddleboard nearby and other items onshore, and they determined that Wendling had been paddleboarding.
The news release states that Wendling’s death “does not appear suspicious” but the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner’s Office will determine her cause of death.
