Low clouds hang over downtown producers by tropical weather in the Gulf of Mexico in Houston, Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Gov.
Greg Abbott activated Texas emergency resources as heavy rain and slow-moving storms raise flash flood threats statewide.
Brett Coomer/Houston Chronicle
Emergency resources across the state have been activated by Gov.
Greg Abbott ahead of possible severe weather and flooding over the next few days.
Multiple rounds of heavy rain are expected to impact the state with slow-moving storms threatening large portions of north, west, central, south and east Texas, according to the National Weather Service .
FLOOD THREAT: Houston’s flood threat is rising this week.
Here’s when to expect strong storms.

The worst of the weather is expected early to mid-week, according to the agency.
“The state of Texas will deploy all necessary resources to help local officials respond to potential severe weather and flash flooding across the state,” Abbott said in a release .
“I urge all Texans to monitor local forecasts, heed guidance from state and local officials, and always remember: 'Turn Around, Don’t Drown.'
Texas will support our communities as these threats develop.”
Mon.
7/12 - Scattered to numerous storms are expected across southeast Texas today.
Given rich tropical moisture overhead, some storms could produce locally high rain rates, which may lead to some street flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas.

An 80% chance of storms is expected Monday afternoon as the day heats up, according to Anthony Franze , newsroom meteorologist.
"That active weather pattern is expected to continue over the next few days, resulting in a rising threat of flash flooding through the first half of the week," he said.
"The wet weather, though, will keep the summer heat at bay, as temperatures are likely to be below-average through the first half of the week."
