If you live in New Orleans and have any sort of social media presence at all, you’ve probably seen the video of 7-year-old Canan Cutler flying past Pal’s Lounge while standing on his blue and green Concord bike.
The fearless child cyclist found his way to internet stardom back in April, when a crowd outside the Bayou St.
John bar cheered him on as he performed the trick he’s been working on since he was just 6 years old.
Among the lucky patrons at Pal’s that evening was influencer Aubrey Allison, known online as @aubreyavocado.
She pulled out her phone and filmed as Canan placed one foot on his bike’s seat, the other on its frame, and bravely stood while barreling down St.
Philip Street with one hand in the air.
After a round of applause erupted from around the neighborhood, Canan hopped off his bike and bowed.
“It was just a sweet moment that I was lucky enough to capture,” Allison said.
She had no idea the wholesome video would go on to be among the most popular she’s ever made, garnering 1.3 million views on TikTok and nearly 250,000 likes on Instagram.
But Canan always knew it could be his big break.
“I was like, if this gets famous, I might be famous for the rest of my life,” he said over the phone while taking a dip in his kiddie pool Thursday, his summer break from school waning.
Just a months into Canan’s newfound celebrity, the deals and perks are already rolling in.
Allison gave Canan the tickets in a fresh video filmed outside Pal’s, in which he jumps up and down with glee before hopping on his bike and showing off another batch of bike stunts.
He’s graciously invited his mom, Amy Cutler, two longtime friends and a new friend to join him at the Superdome this weekend.
“I’m really excited,” he said.
Cutler didn’t know anything about the viral video of her son until Allison reached out to her personally, but she wasn’t surprised to see him out there making friends and putting on a show.
“He’s definitely not shy,” Cutler said, chuckling.
An only child who thrives in school, Canan loves the spotlight and always strives to be the best at whatever he does, Cutler said.
Some day, maybe, he’ll be doing more than watching the X Games.
