Rep.
Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul, have spoken out after he allegedly crashed his convertible into a parked car in Napa County before fleeing the scene.
“Mr.
Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle,” a spokesperson for the Pelosis said in a statement to The California Post.
“Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter.”
The statement comes as Paul, 86, faces a recommended misdemeanor hit-and-run charge stemming from Friday's crash in Yountville.
According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 6700 block of Yount Street at about 2:30 p.m. after a witness reported seeing a northbound vehicle slam into the rear of a parked car on the shoulder.
Officials said the vehicle sustained significant damage to its front right side.
The witness told 911 dispatchers the driver briefly stopped before pulling away from the scene.
Authorities said the impact caused major damage and forced the parked vehicle’s right tire onto the curb.
Pelosi was not taken into custody at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said that decision is standard for misdemeanor offenses.
The case has since been forwarded to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Authorities are also submitting a DMV re-evaluation referral, which officials described as a common step involving elderly drivers.
A spokesperson for the Napa County Sheriff’s Office told The California Post that investigators are recommending a misdemeanor charge of property damage hit-and-run without bodily injury.
The latest incident comes just two years after Pelosi’s 2022 DUI crash in Napa County.
In that case, authorities said Pelosi was behind the wheel of his Porsche when he crashed.
Officers said that he smelled strongly of alcohol, slurred his speech and appeared unsteady on his feet.
His blood alcohol content measured 0.082%, and he later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.
